PCI Mariners gain 5-2 win over Rotary Tigers

Atmore’s Cal Ripken National League saw some heated action this week including games between the Atmore Rotary Club Tigers and PCI Mariners and the First National Bank & Trust Athletics and PCI Padres.

In a Thursday night battle between the Atmore Rotary Club Tigers and the PCI Mariners, the Mariners came away with a 5-2 win over their Atmore Cal Ripken National League competitors.

The Mariners took the lead in their first at-bat with Justin Pearson (1-for-3, R) ripping a single and scoring on an error by the Tigers.

Trailing 1-0, the Tigers took their turn at the plate, but were unable to secure a run as Jackson Breckenridge (1-for-3, 2SB) hit a single, but was stranded on third.

In the second and third innings, neither team could find any offense at the plate with the Tigers stranding a runner at third in the second and the Mariners stranding runners in both innings.

In the top of the fourth, the Mariners went back to work with Xan McGhee (1-for-2, HR, 2R) scoring the team’s second run on a steal home.

Two runs in the bottom of the inning pulled the Tigers even with the Mariners as Christian Thorpe (0-for-1, R) and Brad Quimby (0-for-1, R) were both walked and scored on a single by Tyler Wilson (2-for-2, 2RBI).

The Mariners found some luck at the plate in the top of the fifth withi three batters scoring to give their team a 5-2 lead. Dakota Barn (1-for-3, R) led off the inning with a double and was followed onto base by Cole Wynn (0-for-1, R) who walked. They were knocked in on a three-run homer by McGhee.

Facing a loss, the Tigers came back to the plate in the bottom of the inning, but were unable to come up with any runs as all three of their batters went down to strikeouts to give the Mariners the win.

Cardinals 5

In Thursday’s early game on the Atmore Cal Ripken National League slate, the First National Bank & Trust Athletics slipped past the Atmore Lions Club Cardinals to win 7-5 at Tom Byrne Park.

The Athletics opened the game at the plate and started strong with Nytorious Cooler (1-for-2, 2R) and Eric Williams (1-for-1, 3R) coming across the plate to put the A’s up 2-0.

In the bottom of the first, the Cardinals moved Dee Dee Poole (1-for-3) all the way to third base, but were unable get him to score.

Following a scoreless inning by the A’s, the Cardinals tied the game at two as Devon Robinson (2-for-2, R) and Tristan Kilpatrick (0-for-1, R) scored runs.

In the top of the third, the Athletics took the lead back with Williams scoring his second run of the game on an error by the Cardinals.

Trailing 3-2, the Cardinals were not down long as they added two more runs to the scoreboard with Fred Flavors (2-for-3, 2R) and Evan Tatum (1-for-3, R) making their way around the basepath to give their team a 4-3 lead.

The A’s mounted a comeback in the fourth inning with three runs scoring as Cooler, Williams and Charlie Gandy (0-for-2, R) crossed the plate.

In the top of the fifth, the A’s made the score 7-4 with Jabe Dawe (1-for-3, R) scoring on a steal home.

The Cardinals cut the lead to two runs in the bottom of the inning with Flavors scoring, but that would be all they could get as they fell to the A’s 7-5.

Cardinals 11

Mariners 6

The Atmore Lions Club Cardinals and PCI Mariners battled on the diamond on Tuesday night with the Cardinals coming away with an 11-6 win at Tom Byrne Park.

The Mariners opened the game with a 4-0 lead with Dakota O’Barr (0-for-1, 2R) and Justin Pearson (0-for-0, 3R) scoring the team’s first runs with a run in both the first and second innings.

Trailing 4-0 heading into the top of the fourth, the Cardinals responded with a five-run inning as Dagen Austin (0-for-1, 2R), LaDarius Smith (0-for-1, R), Evan Tatum (2-for-3, 2R), Devon Robinson (2-for-3, 2R) and Tristan Kilpatrick (0-for-2, R) all scored to give their team the lead.

The Mariners tied the game at five in the bottom of the fourth with Pearson scoring his third run of the game.

The Cardinals broke the tie in the top of the fifth with six runs as Dee Dee Poole (1-for-4, R), Austin, Fred Flavors (3-for-4, R), Jared Gibbs (1-for-2, R), Tatum and Robinson scoring putting them on top 11-5.

The Mariners fell short of a comeback in the bottom of the fifth with only Xan McGhee (1-for-3, R) scoring to give the Cards an 11-6 win.

Athletics 11

Padres 2

The First National Bank & Trust Athletics dominated the PCI Padres on Tuesday night in Atmore Cal Ripken National League action.

The Athletics scored first in the bottom of the first inning with five runs coming across the plate as Jamaya Frye (0-for-1, 2R), Gayton Thames (1-for-3, R), Eric Williams (1-for-2, R), Josh Booker (0-for-1, R), and Nytorious Cooler (1-for-2, 2R) all crossed the plate.

The Padres made the score 5-1 in the top of the second with Thunder Jackson (1-for-1, R) touching home plate.

The A’s extended their lead back to five runs in the bottom of the inning with Jamaya Frye scoring another run.

In the bottom of the third, the A’s added five more runs with David Richardson (0-for-0, R), Booker, Cooler, Marlon Lee (1-for-2, R) and Charlie Gandy (0-for-0, R) scoring.

The Padres cut the lead to nine runs with Jackson scoring another run, but that’s where the score would stand with the A’s winning.
