Cal Ripken registration continues

Atmore Cal Ripken League is looking to fill teams before the season starts a month earlier.
This year’s season will start on April 6 for teams in rookie league, ages 7 and 8; minor league, ages 9 and 10; and major league, ages 11 and 12. This will allow the league to properly schedule interleague games with teams from Florida including leagues in northwest Escambia, Chamuckla, Century and Fidelis, said league president and district commissioner Murray Johnson.
“It’s much easier if we start earlier and sit down and do our schedules together,” Johnson said.
Johnson expects the Atmore league to consist 10 tee-ball teams as well as four teams each for the 7-12 age groups, including teams representing the Poarch Band of Creek Indians.
Interested players can register Saturday, March 2 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the auditorium at City Hall. Those interested can also register at Murray Johnson Insurance at 105 E. Louisville Ave Monday-Friday from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m.
Johnson said he hasn’t set a deadline for registration, but teams will begin practice on Monday, March 11.
The tee-ball season will begin March 16 and the season won’t consist of interleague games in Florida, Johnson said.
