ECHS win streak at four

After starting the season 1-3, the Escambia County High School baseball team has won four straight games, including a victory over LeFlore High School and a weekend sweep of B.C. Rain.

The Blue Devils scored four inside-the-park home runs to beat the Rattlers 14-13. Dandrez McCarthy rounded the bases twice. In addition Gage White and Malcolm Black each scored on the rare feat.

Black got the win from the mound Friday.

The Blue Devils beat B.C. Rain 5-2 in game one Saturday. Matthew Quimby pitched a complete game.

David Johnson scored two RBIs. Tyler Sansfree got an RBI, while White and A.J. Matthews also got RBIs.

The Blue Devils beat B.C. Rain 11-9 in game two of Saturday’s doubleheader. Sansfree pitched six innings and got the win, while Black picked up the save.

Imani Gray and Justin Davis scored two RBIs each in the win.

Coach Gavin King credited better pitching and hitting for the win streak.

“Our pitchers are really settling down,” he said. “We’re swinging the bat well.”

The Blue Devils took on Monroe County Tuesday, but results weren’t available as of press time. ECHS will host LeFlore next on Friday with a junior varsity, varsity doubleheader starting at 5 p.m.

The junior varsity Blue Devils beat LeFlore 15-2 Friday with pitcher Nytorious Cooler getting the win.
