Atmore all-stars beat NWE

The 8U Atmore All-Star team beat up on NWE in two games Friday afternoon.

Atmore used a 16-run first inning to propel it to a 31-4 win in game one of the two-game set.

Christopher Johnson started things off with a single. Two batters later Josh Burkett reached with a one-out single as did Kanye Hooks and Braden Woods. T.J. Pettway cleared the bases with a home run to give Atmore a 5-0 lead.

Anthony McCants singled before Will Smith smashed a two-run home run to give Atmore a 7-0 lead. Ty Robinson singled during the next at-bat and was followed by Davion Steele, who hit a two-run bomb.

Carmelo Turner and Bryson Williams each singled before Johnson cleared the bases with a three-run shot of his own. J.T. Alaniz and Burkett both doubled before Hooks singled and Woods cleared the bases with a home run for a 16-0 lead.

Josh Landis and Aiden Broadhead both singled for NWE. Reid McCall doubled and Wyatt Jarvis singled for RBIs. NWE cut the lead to 16-3 after one inning.

McCants, Smith, Robinson and Steele all singled to start the second inning. Johnson and Alaniz also singled. Hooks, Woods and Pettway all reached base. Atmore added seven more runs to lead 23-3.

NWE was held scoreless in the bottom of the second and Atmore carried a 20-point lead into the top of the third.

McCants singled to things started for Atmore in the top of the third. Smith and Steele hit triples. Turner and Williams both singled and Johnson tripled. Alaniz and Hooks singled during the next two at-bats. Atmore led 31-3.

Reid McCall doubled for NWE before John Michael Ward scored him with a single. NWE cut the lead to 31-4, but the game ended on a groundout by Jarvis.

The outcome was only slightly better for NWE in game two, losing 14-4 to Atmore. Landis and Broadhead both scored after singling to get things started for NWE in the top of the first inning. NWE led 2-0.

Atmore tied the game on a two-run home run by Hooks that scored Johnson. After the NWE side struck out in the top of the second, Atmore went on top with a Smith solo shot in the bottom of the inning. Atmore led 3-2.

NWE was held scoreless in the top of the third after two groundouts and a strikeout, but Atmore’s hitters came to life, scoring nine runs in the half inning. Turner, Johnson and Alaniz all singled before Burkett cleared the bases with a home run. Atmore led 6-2.
Woods, Pettway, Smith, Robinson and Turner all scored runs to give Atmore an 12-2 lead.

Broadhead and Ward both scored runs after doubles for NWE to cut into the Atmore lead at 11-4. Atmore’s Alaniz and Burkett both scored after each singled and Hooks hit a triple. The game ended after that at 14-4.

Brewton all-stars beat Atmore’s Greenlawn

Atmore’s Greenlawn Home Health lost 12-1 to a Brewton team made up of Babe Ruth all-stars.

Jackson Moore hit a two-out single with one on, but Greenlawn left both runners stranded.

The Brewton All-Stars scored seven runs in the bottom of the first to take a 7-0 lead after one.

Greenlawn was held scoreless in the second with two lineouts and a groundout. Brewton was also held scoreless in the bottom of the inning, but not after having players reach on single and a walk. Atmore picked up one strikeout.

Greenlawn went scoreless in the top of the third as well with two groundouts and a strikeout. Brewton scored two runs in the bottom of the inning to take a 9-0 lead.

Atmore’s Greenlawn team scored its only run of the day after a Jabrice Hooks single. Justin Pearson doubled to score him to cut the Brewton lead to 9-1.

Brewton scored three runs in the bottom of the third to take a 12-1 lead. The three Atmore batters in the fourth inning all struck out.
