Local man facing second set of charges

A Flomaton man who authorities say wrecked his motorcycle — and injured his two grandchildren — while operating it drunk has been indicted on assault charges.
Gary Lynn Posey, 51, of Pecan Grove Trailer Park in Flomaton, was arrested Friday after an altercation in a separate case, Escambia County Chief Deputy Mike Lambert said. The grand jury indicted him last week on two charges of first-degree assault in the wreck.
Lambert said the indictment was the result of witness testimony before the grand jury alleging Posey was operating a two-wheeled vehicle while under the influence of alcohol.
“The crash sent his (Posey) two grandchildren to the hospital with some serious injuries,” Lambert said. “The case was worked by the Alabama State Troopers, and details in the case fall under their jurisdiction.”
Lambert said the suspect was also involved in an altercation with another individual Friday, which lead to a second set of charges being levied against him.
“Posey was allegedly involved in an altercation with Michael Hardy at the trailer park where he lived Friday night,” Lambert said. “The altercation became physical when the victim retreated to his vehicle. Posey inflicted a severe wound on the suspect’s arm that required medical attention.”
Lambert said when officers arrived in response to the altercation call information was already in the system showing a standing indictment against the suspect.
“Our officers did their job and took him into custody at that time,” Lambert said. “He was charged with second-degree assault in the Friday night case.”
Lambert said Posey was released on a $50,000 in the indicted charges — $25,000 for each count — and $10,000 on the Friday night second-degree assault charge.
