Atmore wins 1st game of season

Escambia County’s Tim Finklea and Tee Simms exchanged the ball all night and ran the Blue Devils to a 26-14 victor over Faith Academy, and the team’s first win of the season tonight.

Blue Devils head football coach Royce Young said the boys started the game on a good note.

“The kids were energetic and excited,” Young said. “Overall, we had a good week of practice.”

FA scored first, but the Blue Devils answered after a long drive. ECHS failed its 2-point conversion and trailed 7-6.

The Blue Devils managed to tack on another score before halftime and led 12-7.

ECHS scored another touchdown in the third quarter, made the 2-point conversion and went ahead 20-7.

However, FA cut the game to six on another score in the fourth.

Young said he was thankful the guys scored again to put it away.

“We had a long drive finally to finish it off,” he said. “We had a couple of really good defensive stops in the fourth to keep it to a two possession game.”

Young said Finklea and Simms alternated at tailback and had several good runs and carries.

“Our offensive line had the best night of the season,” he said. “Tim and Tee had outstanding games running the ball. That doesn’t happen if you don’t block.”

ECHS will be back in action next week for homecoming against Williamson.
