Escambia County wins Class 5A, Area 2 title

Escambia County beat Jackson 3-1 in a back and forth battle to win the Class 5A, Area 2 Championship tonight at home.

The Lady Blue Devils claimed the first two games, 25-23, 25-22, but fell in the third 20-25 to go down a set.

Early in the fourth set, ECHS found itself in a hole, but battled back late.

“I’m very proud of the girls,” ECHS head volleyball coach Sarah Lindsey said. “They fought hard for that win.”

With this victory, the Lady Blue Devils improve to 15-11 on the season, and will advance to the Class 5A South Super Regional on Friday in Montgomery. JHS also gained a berth as the runner up.

This is the second year in a row that ECHS has won the area championship in school history.

Game time on Friday is at 12:45 p.m. The first two rounds are single elimination.
