BRATT, Fla. — The American Red Cross of Pensacola, Fla., has set up a shelter at Northview High School for the victims of the storms that swept through Century earlier this afternoon.

Mass Care Chairman John Prince said several houses were destroyed in the storms.

“As long as people need shelter, we’ll be here,” Prince said.

Prince said he heard some 20 houses were destroyed.

Red Cross’s Mass Care is in charge of feeding, sheltering and bulk distribution for Pensacola and north Florida. MC covers 10 counties in Florida.

“We’re on call 24-7,” Prince said. “If something happens, we jump into action.”

The shelter at NHS is in the school’s volleyball and basketball gym. The entrance to the shelter is on the backside of the school at the student parking lot.

Prince said the shelter will have cots, blankets and food for those in need.

Earlier this afternoon, the Escambia County School System closed NHS, which is one of four in the system, because of the storms.
