A suspect has been arrested and charged with murder after an alleged shooting late Monday night, according to the Atmore Police Department.

Public Information Officer Sgt. Darrell McMann said in a release that APD officers responded to Atmore Community Hospital Feb. 20 in reference to a report of a shooting.

McMann said the victim was under the age of 18, and was unresponsive upon being driven to the hospital by the suspect, who is also under the age of 18.

“The shooting occurred in a vehicle near an interesection Carver Avenue,” McMann said. “The suspect was taken into custody amd was arrested by investigators and charged with murder.”

McMann said due to the suspect’s age, the APD can’t release his name.

“We consulted with the district attorney who made the decision on the charge,” he said.

The suspect was then transported to the Escambia County Detention Center in Brewton.

The incident is under investigation.
