APD: McDavid, Fla. man’s attempted murder charge upgraded to murder

A McDavid, Fla. man’s attempted murder charge has been upgraded to murder, according to the Atmore Police Department.

Public Information Officer Sgt. Darrell McMann said in a release that Luis T. Becerra, 39, has been charged with the alleged murder of Tara A. Bryan, who passed away from her injury on May 22.

According to Advance archives, Becerra was apprehended by Alabama Law Enforcement Agency Troopers at exit 99 on Interstate 65 after a statewide (be on the lookout) was issued after investigators were able to determine that he was the suspect.

McMann said the apprehension stemmed from an incident that occurred at approximately 11:45 a.m. on May 17, when APD officers responded to a room at the Southland Hotel, at 1304 E. Louisville Ave., in reference to a gunshot victim.

“When officers arrived on the scene, they discovered a female laying on the floor who had been shot,” McMann said. “The victim was transported by helicopter to a trauma center.”

Becerra was transported to the APD, and was interviewed by investigators. He was then charged and transported to the Escambia County Detention Center in Brewton.
