Public Information Officer Sgt. Darrell McMann said in a release that Chelsea Weaver, 22, was arrested and charged with possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia in reference to a torch lighter Weaver kept in the same container as the methamphetamine.

McMann said at approximately 8:50 a.m., an APD officer was flagged down by a motorist on Highway 21 near Interstate 65.

“The motorist informed the officer that a female (Weaver) was standing in the middle of Highway 21 near the entrance ramp to Interstate 65,” McMann said. “The officer observed the female in the road and contacted her.”

McMann said wasn’t wearing shoes, was speaking incoherently and was sweating profusely. “The officer, suspecting that Weaver was under the influence of narcotics, called for an ambulance to ensure Weaver was not suffering from a medical emergency,” he said. “Weaver informed the officer she had used ‘ice’ earlier in the morning.”

McMann said Weaver informed EMS personnel she was ok, that she was just under the influence of narcotics.

Weaver then produced approximately 1.2 grams of a white crystal-like substance from her pocket that field tested positive methamphetamine, McMann said.

Weaver was then transported to the Escambia County Detention Center in Brewton.
