Atmore men arrested for drugs, possession of firearms

Two men were arrested Oct. 31 on drug and firearm charges, according to the Atmore Police Department.

Public Information Officer Sgt. Darrell McMann said in a release that Tyderian Sims, 24, and Ladre Lawson, 25, both of Atmore, were arrested and charged with possession of marijuana I, possession of drug paraphernalia and certain persons forbidden to possess firearms. Both are convicted felons.

McMann said at approximately 3:15 p.m., APD narcotics investigators conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle stopped in the middle of Harris Street.

“As the investigators approached the vehicle, they detected a strong odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle and contacted the occupants (Sims and Lawson),” he said. “The investigators removed Sims and Lawson to conduct a probable cause search of the vehicle due to the strong odor of marijuana.”

McMann said during the search of the vehicle, the investigators discovered approximately 56 grams of marijuana, a digital scale and two handguns.

Sims and Lawson were then transported to the Escambia County Detention Center in Brewton.
