With two games left in Escambia Academy’s season, things are getting tougher for the Cougars who face two Top 10 opponents in those final two games.
This week the Cougars (0-9, 0-5) host No. 1-ranked Monroe Academy in a game where they need all the home advantage they can get.
Head coach Heath Gibson said the Cougars will be determined to stop the run game of the Volunteers (8-0, 5-0).
In a season with little offensive production, the Cougars look to open up the offense and move the ball down the field.
Throwing the ball has been a problem this season, but with it being a weakness the Cougars look to use it to gain a strength with opponents looking for a run.
Gibson said the team will come out in one of their spread formations and throw the ball a lot.
Defensively, the Cougars look to improve everything before Friday arrives.
Gibson said the defense is focusing on making the tackle and improving on pushing their way into the backfield.
EA is trying to avoid going winless, and is going to put everything into their last two games in order to win.
Gibson said they are just going to play their hand and see what happens.
The Cougars and Volunteers kickoff Friday night at 7 p.m. at Bachelor Field in Canoe.
