The Blue Devils of Escambia County High School recently put on a show at the University of South Alabama in Mobile by winning a 7-on-7 football tournament featuring 10 teams from Alabama and Mississippi.
Escambia County took home the championship after defeating Mary G. Montgomery High School from Semmes in the final game.
Blue Devils head coach Kyle Davis said winning the tournament was just a combination of winning games at the right time.
One thing that led to the first-place finish was a strong performance by the offense, according to Davis.
Davis said one of the weaknesses of his team showed improvement and they stepped up during the tournament.
Offense was not the only thing that gave the Blue Devils their 7-on-7 wins.
Davis said the defense stepped up and showed how well it could work with skill players returning in the right spots.
One of the benefits of the tournament is it allows teams to get their players some extra experience in leading offenses and defenses in a fast-paced environment.
