The sudden departure of former Northview Chiefs head coach Cody Keene has not slowed down the off season workouts that the players have been going through since school let out for the summer.
With just weeks until school starts and practices set to begin Aug. 11, the Chiefs have been coming out in droves to hit the weights and work on their conditioning in order to be ready for the 2009 season.
Interim head coach Sid Wheatley said that workouts have been going strong, and added he has never seen a turnout like this during his time at Northview.
With such a high number of players in attendance day in and day out, there has to be an explanation for what is pushing players so hard.
Wheatley said he knows the reasons behind why so many players are getting up in the morning and making their way to the practice field in Bratt, Fla.
To improve as much as possible before practices begin, the Chiefs are getting to Northview every morning and working on their strength and conditioning.
Wheatley said the players have been working hard on weights all year even before school let out.
To get in the competitive mindset, the Chiefs are also going up against another team in the area in some 7-on-7 action.
Wheatley said the team was traveling to Uriah on Tuesday to take on former Northview coach Mark Heaton’s team.
