The clock is ticking and football season is creeping closer for the Escambia Academy Cougars who have put on their full shell and started full-contact practices.
The Cougars begin their season with a trip to Sparta Academy on Aug. 21 in what will be their second straight 11 game season.
After going 0-11 last season, the Cougars are looking to rebound and make their way back to the AISA playoffs.
Cougars head coach and athletic director Heath Gibson said his team’s practices have looked strong so far.
Offensively, the Cougars are working on a Wing-T offense and could possibly work in more formations, according to Gibson.
Gibson said the offense is the weaker point of the Cougars’ program right now, but added they are making strides every day.
Defensively, the Cougars are stronger this year with several players back.
Gibson said the play of his front seven have been extremely strong with everyone learning the various formations.
