Escambia County’s trip to Spanish Fort Friday night did not go as planned as the Blue Devils were routed 45-8 by their region opponents, the Toros.
The Blue Devils (1-3, 1-2) came out of the gate and were unable to match up with the No.10 ranked team in Class 5A.
At the half, the Blue Devils had been shut out 31-0 with the Toros playing relentless football for four quarters.
Blue Devils head coach Kyle Davis said Spanish Fort came out motivated and looking for a win.
Several things played against the Blue Devils for the entire game as they d id not score until late in the fourth quarter.
Injuries held the Blue Devils back as junior quarterback Rico Stallworth left the game with a concussion, while receiver Kingston Craft left the game due to injury as well.
Davis said injuries and turnovers kept his team from having a strong performance.
Now the Blue Devils look to have a strong week of practice as they prepare for their rivals, the Baldwin County Tigers.
Davis said all the players and coaches can do is go back to practice and be the team they were against Faith Academy.
The Blue Devils and Tigers kick off at 7 p.m. at Herbert Barnes Stadium next Friday.
