A season full of losses on the field and on the roster has pushed the Blue Devils to almost the bottom of the pile in Region 1 in Class 5A.
The Escambia County Blue Devils (1-5, 1-3) look to turn their fortunes around this week when they take a trip down Hwy. 59 to take on their region rivals, the Gulf Shores Dolphins.
The Blue Devils suffered a tough loss last week that was filled with controversy as two LeFlore Rattlers were ejected after punches were thrown at a Blue Devil player.
Officials mistakenly ejected one Blue Devil player, but have since made a phone call to head coach Kyle Davis to apologize for the mistake.
With all of that behind them, the Blue Devils hope to get their season back on track as the majority of their players who were down to injury have returned.
Head coach Kyle Davis said the offensive line will get a boost this week with the return of its starting center.
In preparing for the Dolphins offense, the Blue Devils have been working on their pass coverage to try and slow their quarterback down.
Davis said some new things have been looked at in order to be as prepared as possible.
Offensively, the Blue Devils are working on gaining momentum in the beginning of the game.
Davis said slow starts have plagued his team throughout the season, and added a quick start could help them play more competitive.
In order to get the most out of their game with Gulf Shores, the Blue Devil offense will focus on controlling the amount of time that the Dolphins have the ball.
Davis said time management is a task that the offense is going to work on this week. He added pass protection is something that the offensive line must work on for his team to stay in the game.
Through the film study, that the Blue Devil coaches and players have done this week, Davis said there is one thing that his team might be able to take advantage of.
The Blue Devils and Dolphins kick off in Gulf Shores Friday at 7 p.m.
