A homeowner killed a Brewton man early Monday morning when he attempted to break into a house on Hwy. 31 North in Brewton, Escambia County sheriff's deputies said.
The owners of the house told authorities they were awakened before 3 a.m. by the sound of someone trying to break into their house. The man burst into their bedroom and pointed a gun at them. The homeowner also had a handgun and fired one round at the subject, Sheriff Grover Smith said.
Deputies were called to the scene and found Jeremy Paul McCall, 33, dead at the scene.
