Boys and girls of all ages packed the bleachers under the “big top” Saturday and Sunday as the Lewis &Clark Circus brought its act to town.
The Atmore Area YMCA sponsored the event as a fundraiser and Executive Director Tammy Graham said the weekend proved to be a success.
Graham also took timeout of her weekend schedule to attend the first of three performances put on by the circus. She said the performances were different than those displayed in 2007 when Lewis &Clark made their debut in Atmore, adding that they were entertaining for all ages.
The circus featured numerous acts including feats of balance and strength, high-flying acrobatics, goofy clowns, Bengal tigers and performing goats, horses and a camel. There was also a petting zoo, camel rides, carnival games for children, concession foods and much more.
According to Graham, the YMCA raised between $1,000 and $1,200 hosting the circus. She said it was “easy” money.
As for future shows, Graham said she plans on inviting the Lewis &Clark Circus back in 2011.
