With the regular season now in the rearview mirror, the Northview Chiefs are focusing on a special postseason game that puts them up against the Tate Aggies this Saturday at Tate High School.
The Chiefs (7-3, 5-2) ended their 10-game season last Friday with a 17-14 loss to the West Florida Jaguars, but that loss was far from the minds of the Chiefs as they managed to make a turnaround from last season’s 2-8 mark.
This week will mark a return to the postseason albeit for one game as they will play in the inaugural Miracle Bowl.
Chiefs head coach Sid Wheatley said his team is excited about the opportunity that has been presented to them.
With this the Chiefs’ only postseason game, the team is going into practice preparing as if it were a playoff game.
Wheatley said the Chiefs need to be ready for a good football team from a much larger school.
The Chiefs defense is working to be ready for the option offense that the Aggies will run at them Saturday.
Wheatley said the Chiefs will be more prepared this week for an option offense after facing one last week at West Florida High School.
Offensively, the Chiefs hope to continue their use of the run through multiple formations.
Wheatley said the offense will continue to work hard in practice to make sure they perfect their execution. He added film study has shown what the Aggies do well on defense.
The Chiefs and Aggies kickoff Saturday at noon at Tate High School in Gonzalez.
