Several county roadways were washed away by the heavy rains that drenched the area earlier this week.
According to Escambia County District 4 Commissioner Brandon Smith an entire portion of North Canoe Road was washed out Monday night, as well as, a portion of Woods Road and two locations on Sardis Church Road. He added that the Cowpen Creek Bridge was damaged by floodwaters and the temporary road on Beacon Lane near the Atmore Municipal Airport was washed out.
Smith said a state of emergency has not been declared, but he is certain aid will be needed to repair all the problems.
Smith said he has been riding around his district since Monday evening assessing damage so that all problems can be addressed.
One issue he has noticed while assessing damage is motorist not obeying barricades.
Smith added that he would like to thank all of our rescue personnel and volunteer fire departments for their work during the storm.
