For those looking for a gift for history buffs, Lou Vickery’s new book, “The Rise of The Poarch Band of Creek Indians,” may be a perfect purchase.
Vickery will be signing the book Friday at the Atmore Public Library just in time for those last minute gifts. The event will be held from 4 p.m. until 6 p.m. with a donation made to the library with the sale of each book.
The research into his family history led Vickery on a trip that brought about the writing of the book.
The book became a 236-page history of the tribe that was federally recognized in 1984. It’s publishing marks the 25th anniversary of the federal recognition.
In his synopsis of the book, Vickery said the volume is full of authenticity about the Poarch Band of Creek Indians and how they moved from stagnation to regeneration by using the past as a springboard to the future. The book is about transition, turning points and crossroads rich in information and practical facts.
Editors with Upword Press, a publisher of the book, said the book offers timeless material that will help readers navigate the history of the tribe.
Vickery said his Website, scattersunshine.com, currently has six chapters of the book available to interested readers.
Vickery said he would be purchasing some authors copies of the book that he will have available locally before Thanksgiving.
