The junior varsity squads for the Escambia Academy Cougars and the Atmore Christian School Rams battled back-and-forth Thursday afternoon with the Cougars narrowly escaping with a 21-19 victory.
A big second quarter pushed the Cougars to the win despite being outscored in the first, third and fourth quarters.
Cougar Jordan Sasser led the offensive charge for the Cougars with 10 points, while Wesley Webb led the Rams with eight.
In the first quarter, points were hard to come by for either team as the Rams managed to put four points on the scoreboard and held the Academy to three.
In the second quarter, the Cougars took the momentum and added eight points to their total, while holding the Rams to three, which gave the Academy a 11-7 halftime lead.
After halftime, neither team was able to make a shot as the Rams again outscored the Cougars this time 3-2, which only dented the Cougars lead.
In the final period of play, the Rams put up a game-high nine points with the Cougars adding eight, which allowed them to earn a 21-19 victory at home.
Cougars recording points in the statbook included Paul Arnold with four points, Garrett Kirk with three points, Jacob Dean with two points and Eddie Agrait adding two points.
ACS Rams with points were Tyler Dehoff with seven points, Casey Freeman with three and Josh McDonald scoring one point.
