Escambia County residents will have an opportunity this weekend to hear a first-hand account of the next session of congress.
U.S. Senator Richard Shelby (R-Ala.) will address citizens during a visit in Atmore beginning at 10 a.m. on Jan. 30. The event is scheduled to be held at Cutie Pies Bakery &Supplies at 115 N. Main St. and is open to the public.
Shelby said the town meetings he holds has given him opportunities to interact with county residents on a wide range of topics.
Shelby will offer residents and opportunity to voice their concerns or ask important questions during a comment time following his remarks.
This will be the first meeting held by Shelby in Escambia County in 2010. Shelby officials say the Senator has hold more than 1,500 county visits since being elected to serve the state’s citizens. As part of his commitment to Alabamians, Shelby holds a meeting in each county every year.
Shelby currently serves as a ranking member on the committee on banking, housing and urban affairs. He also serves on the committee on appropriations and the subcommittee on commerce, justice, science and related agencies as a ranking member. As part of his committee duties, Shelby also serves on subcommittees including economic policy, financial institutions, housing and transportation, international trade and finance, securities and investment, defense, energy and water, homeland security, labor, health and human services, education, and related agencies, transportation, treasury, the judiciary, housing and urban development, and related agencies. He also serves on a special committee on aging.
