Thursday is an important day in Atmore athletics.
Students from two of its schools will come together to participate in an all for fun powderpuff football game organized by students in Youth Leadership Atmore Class of 2010.
The powderpuff game is the class’ way of raising money to help fund their service project.
The service project they have chosen is to earn money to purchase reading books for five elementary schools around the Atmore area.
The idea to use a powderpuff game to raise money is probably one of the smartest they could have come up with because it’s different.
Sure almost every school around plays a powderpuff game during their homecoming week, but they aren’t always used as fundraisers especially outside of the specific schools that play them.
Usually fundraisers consist of car washes or bake sales. And while everyone loves a clean car or a brownie those ideas are overused.
This is a great idea because it involves so many different people and two of the prominent schools around Atmore.
The success of this event though relies on the community in Atmore.
If everyone will take an hour out of their Thursday to go to ECHS and make a donation and watch the game you are not only helping this YLA class accomplish their service project, but you are also helping promote reading in elementary schools.
That will lead to even more academic success in elementary school students, which will translate into success once they reach middle school and high school.
So when Thursday arrives, do not forget to head out to ECHS for a good cause.
