With the district tournament looming ahead just a few days away, the Northview Lady Chiefs continued their quest for a playoff spot by destroying the Pensacola Lady Tigers 13-3 Thursday afternoon in Bratt, Fla.
The Lady Chiefs (22-3, 8-0) made their victory against Pensacola High School look easy as they scored all of their runs before the third inning.
Despite the offensive production, Lady Chiefs Head Coach Sammy Day still found some things that his team needs to correct before the district tournament.
Day said his team played well at the beginning of the game, but made some mistakes towards the end of the contest.
After stopping the Lady Tigers in the top of the first three up and three down, the Lady Chiefs came to the plate with one thing on their mind, to score runs.
The Lady Chiefs used the bottom half of the first to pull away from the Lady Tigers by scoring eight runs with Ashley Digmon, Aimee Clarke, Shawna Montgomery, Kolbi Cobb, Misty Doran, Emily Vickery and Candice Greenwell all crossing the plate.
After sending Pensacola’s next three batters down in order, the Lady Chiefs extended their lead by scoring five more runs with Clarke, Doran, Vickery, McMillan and Simpson scoring to put Northview ahead 13-0.
In the top of the fourth, the Lady Tigers finally found some offense as N. Keaugh reached base on an error by the right fielder and scored on a fielder’s choice by Y.McNaire to cut Northview’s lead to 12.
Another scoreless inning by the Lady Chiefs allowed the Lady Tigers score two more runs as K. Dickey, B. Sandoval and B. Brown all ripped singles with Sandoval and Brown notching RBI to make the Lady Chiefs’ lead 10.
Following their singles, three more Lady Tigers were put out to end the game.
Following the game, Day said his team needs to be ready to go when their district tournament game arrives Tuesday.
The Lady Chiefs play the winner of Monday’s district tournament game Tuesday at 6 p.m. at Northview in Bratt, Fla.
