The Northview High School Chiefs have two games remaining on their schedule. Although they have completed the sweep of district play, they are still looking for that perfect season. The Chiefs will be on the road Friday night in Brewton to face the W. S. Neal Blue Eagles, and will be at home next Friday to close out their regular season against the Escambia County High School Blue Devils.
Coach Bo Lambeth said his players have been looking forward to this part of their schedule. "We have been playing the teams in our district that aren't really that close to this area," he stated. "Many of our players know the players from both Neal and Atmore. This is going to be a fun couple of games for the coaching staff and our players."
The Chiefs won the district championship in convincing fashion last week at they beat the Chipley Tigers by a final score of 52-21. Both teams were unbeaten in district play and were playing for the Championship. Northview's offense was back on track from their scare with Catholic High in Pensacola, and put up the usual numbers that they were accustomed to. Kyle Williams finished the night 13 of 20 passing for 230 yards and 3 touchdowns. Leonte Wright also had a big night as he rushed the ball 17 times for 215 yards and 3 touchdowns.
Friday night's game will be against a tough W. S. Neal ball team. The Blue Eagles are coming off an impressive 28-0 win over the Flomaton Hurricanes. The Eagles are looking at possible post season play themselves and would like nothing more than to play spoiler and end the perfect season for the Chiefs.
According to Neal's head coach, his team is taking nothing for granted in the matchup.
"Northview is one of the best teams we will play all year," said Neal Head Coach Jim Fountain.
Having clinched a playoff spot this past Friday night with a big regional win over Flomaton, the W.S. Neal Blue Eagles want to win their final two regular season games before entering post-season play.
"They have a really high-powered offense and are averaging three touchdown passes per game. Major colleges are recruiting three or four of their players, so they have plenty of talent. Their two receivers, in addition to one of the running backs and the quarterback, are extremely talented."
Coach Fountain said his defense will be working overtime to stop NHS.
"Our defense is going to have to get after them, and I think they will. We also need to control the ball on offense so that we keep their offense off the field as much as possible," said Fountain.
Fountain says that although the Blue Eagles have earned a berth in the Class 3A state playoffs, that is not the team's main focus at this point.
Northview is undefeated in eight games and should be matched well against Neal, 6-2 and 3-2 in regional play.
Game time is 7:30 p.m. in Brewton.
