Mr. Donald E. Bergen, 66, died Wednesday, December 19, 2001, at a local hospital.
He was a native of Flushing, N. Y.,former resident of Long Beach, Long Island, N. Y. and a resident of Century since 1977. He was a 24 year veteran of the Armed Forces and had served in Vietnam and Korea. He had been employed by the Town of Century for the past 14 years and attended the Protestant church.
Mr. Bergen is survived by his wife, Patricia Bergen of Century; his son, Christopher Bergen of Navarre; his daughter, Teresa Garrett and her husband, Jasper, of Flomaton; a grandson, Matthew Garrett of Flomaton and two brothers, Robert E. Bergen of Tampa, Fla. and Kenneth E. Bergen of Jacksonville, Fla.
Funeral services were held Friday, December 21 at 2 p.m. at Eastside Chapel Funeral Home with the Rev. Jerry Keese officiating.
Burial was with military honors at Beulah Chapel Cemetery.
Active pallbearers were Steve Ross, Eddie Hammond, Larry Murphy, W. L. Tyree, Robert Tims and Joe Brown. Honorary pallbearers were Mayor Benny Brown and the employees of the Town of Century.
Eastside Chapel Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
