The roadways of Atmore and the surrounding area were congested with a series of automobile accidents that began at 1 a.m. Tuesday morning.
Emergency personnel responded to the first of four accident scenes in the early morning hours of July 11 at the 55-mile marker of Interstate 65.
According to state trooper reports, Ana Guadalupe Juarez Ramirez, was injured after she apparently left the roadway in the 1999 Ford Mustang she was driving.
Later in the morning, Perdido Volunteer Fire Department responded to a call at 10:39 a.m. on Hwy. 31 involving three vehicles.
The driver of a 2000 Ford Ranger was traveling north on Hwy. 31 when he and a 2002 dump truck driven by William David Walls of Bay Minette collided, according to witnesses.
Latasha Evans, of Stockton, the driver of the third vehicle, a 2002 Saturn, was not injured in the accident.
The dump truck driver, Walls, however was life flighted to a Pensacola, Fla., hospital with life threatening injuries.
The occupants of the Ford Ranger, Eugene and Lillian Curry, of Perdido, were also injured and transported to North Baldwin Infirmary in Bay Minette by Med South Ambulance where they were treated and released.
Atmore emergency personnel responded to yet another accident this time on Hwy. 21 at the corner of Main and Ridgeley streets.
Atmore Police Department responded to the call at 4:40 p.m. Tuesday afternoon to the two-vehicle accident.
Reports state that Brittany Priscilla Powers, of Castleberry, ran a red light in her 2004 four-door Volkswagen Jetta, striking a 1998 four-door Chevrolet Malibu driven by Katrina Banks Thames of Atmore.
According to reports, Thames was transported to Atmore Community Hospital by ambulance.
As Atmore Fire and Rescue Chief Gerry McGhee was leaving this accident, he was the first on scene of a another accident that occurred on Presley and Main.
"When was leaving the scene of the other accident, I drove right up on the other one," McGhee said. "It had just happened and I called it in."
Emergency personnel responded at 5:14 p.m. to find another two-vehicle accident.
The driver of a 2001 Nissan Maxima, Kimberly Williams, of Houston, Texas said that she never saw the other vehicle until impact, reports stated.
Williams struck a 1999 Ford Windstar driven by Connie McCurdy Lambeth of Atmore in the side according to police reports.
A three-year-old girl was transported to Atmore Community Hospital by ambulance with neck pain. Two other boys, also passengers in the Maxima, were transferred to ACH by private vehicle where they were all examined and released.
The roadway activity slowed considerably Wednesday and did not pick up again until late Thursday evening when two vehicles collided on Hwy. 21 at Interstate 65 north of Atmore mile marker 57.
Tiffany Timothy of Atmore, the driver of a 1996 Toyota was the only reported injury in the accident that involved a 2002 Nissan driven by Christopher Davis of Pelham.
No additional details were available at press time.
