Booster club meetings are the time when all the parents and supporters of a football team can gather, grab a bite to eat and discuss the inner workings of the school's team. The Escambia County High School boosters are no different.
On the evening of Aug. 1 the boosters held a meeting at David's Catfish House and discussed the upcoming Blue Devils season. Conversation during the meeting ranged from talk of how the team was looking from head coach Kyle Davis to what advertisements need to go into the program.
There were some side conversations, but when Davis started talking about how the team looked everyone listened.
"We have 55-57 guys out there competing for spots and that shows me that the interest in the program is up," Davis said. "I think for the first time in a while these kids have a swagger about them because they believe they can win. And that is great. I believe we will be successful this year and we will win some games."
Davis could not end his speech before acknowledging all who sat in that side room in the restaurant.
"I appreciate you all for being here and doing all you do for our program and this is the most people I have seen at one of these things in a while," he said. "I love it and I am looking forward to a really good season."
The club also talked about the attempt by some of the boosters to give the stadium an artistic "facelift." The conclusion was that might not happen this year, but it will happen in the near future.
One of the inductees of the inaugural class of the Atmore Hall of Fame was in the audience as well. Carl Madison, who coached Jackson Academy to back-to-back AISA 1A state championships in 2002-03 and is a resident of Atmore, added some ideas to the pot for getting more people in the seats at ECHS games.
Madison offered the idea of offering senior citizen season passes as an idea to get people involved with the ECHS program.
The meetings will be held every Tuesday beginning at 7 p.m. at David's Catfish House. The Booster Club said anyone who is interested in being a part of Blue Devil football is welcome to attend.
