The next time producers for ABC's Extreme Makeover: Home Edition yell, "Action!" it may be in your front yard.
The hit television show, which assists families in need of home renovations due to financial constraints, health or disability and those that go above and beyond the call of duty, are seeking nominations for Alabama heroes worthy of a new home. Lock &Key Productions family casting producer Kelly Mooney said a small town like Atmore is exactly what the show needs.
"One of the things we're starting this season is we're trying to hit every state within the next three years," Mooney said. "We're trying to target places that are not necessarily as high-profile or accessible. That's the reason we like to target small towns. It's easier for us to find families in bigger cities because of media attention. For a small town like Atmore people don't hear about the casting searches as much. That's why we want people to vote in order to find those heroes and needy families that would benefit from our help."
To be eligible, a family must own their own single family home and be able to show producers how a makeover will make a huge difference in their lives.
"We are looking for inspirational families that America can really root for," casting director Quintin Strack said. "This makeover will be the answer to their prayers…the solution to their current problems."
Extreme Makeover: Home Edition, hosted by Ty Pennington, will be starting its fourth season. Strack said producers want to go over the top this season.
"We'd like to feature some real heroes – people that have given something back to their community," he said.
In addition, to heroics, the producers are looking for families whose homes are in dire need of help.
"We really don't want to tear down a nice looking house," Strack added. "We want to see houses that look like they might fall down on their own."
Interested families should e-mail a short description of their family story to:
Nominations must include the names and ages of each member of the household along with a description of the major challenges within the home.
The deadline for hero nominations is Aug. 28, 2006.
