Louise Edith McGhee Turner
POARCH – Louise Edith McGhee Turner, 75, of Poarch died on Aug. 29, 2006 at her residence. Born on Dec. 16, 1930 in Escambia County, Ala., she was a lifelong resident of Nokomis and a Tribal member of the Poarch Band of Creek Indians.
Turner married Edward Avery Turner Sr. and had four children, Edward Avery Turner Jr., Catherine Hill, Christine McGhee and Allen Turner. She was employed with Head Start where she retired after more than 30 years of service. She was a lifelong member of Gospel Light House Chapel, dedicated to the Lord, and enjoyed gospel music. She loved her family and many friends and kept them in her prayers.
When Turner wasn't working or at church, she liked sitting on the front porch in the rocking chair and waving at everyone that passed by or reading the Bible. Turner looked to the family reunion every year and she was anxious to meet all of her loved ones in Heaven that had passed on before her. She had a great sense of humor and made everyone laugh.
Turner's parents, Norvie Lee McGhee Sr. and Gladys Presley McGhee; her husband, Edward Avery Turner Sr.; one brother and sister-in-law, Early Lee McGhee and Wilma McGhee and one grandson, Blake Michael Allen Turner.
Turner is survived by four children, Edward Avery and Shirley Turner Jr. of Nokomis, Catherine and Willard Hill of Poarch, Christine and Gary Joe McGhee Sr. of Poarch and Allen and Michelle Turner of Huxford; nine grandchildren, Phillip Turner of Atmore, Anthony Jordan Jr. of Atmore, Nicholas and Tabitha Hill of Poarch, Benjamin Hill of Poarch, Crystal and Trenton Daughtry of Nokomis, Magan McGhee of Poarch, Gary Joe McGhee Jr. of Poarch, Joshua Turner of Atmore and Heather Victor of Atmore; 16 great grandchildren, Lexi Daughtry, Jaylian Daughtry, Gabby Williams, Trista Hill, Taya Hill, Taylor Hill, BriAnna Jordan, Tyler Jordan, Nathan Jordan, Lauren Jordan, Anthony Jordan, Emma Kate Turner, Kymberlee Victor, Emmilee Victor and D.J. Victor; eight brothers and sisters, Cecil and Betty McGhee of Atmore, Norvie Lee and LouAnn McGhee Sr. of Gadsden, Eloise and Norman Ramer of Gadsden, Douglas and Linda McGhee of Spanish Fort, Betty Jane McVey of Booneville, Miss., Hazel and Lenard Albritton Jr. of Nokomis, Ronnie McGhee of Atmore and Huey and Terry McGhee of Zion.
Funeral services wee held at 2 p.m. on Sept. 1, 2006 at Gospel Lighthouse Church. Mrs. Turner's body was in state at the church two hours prior to the service time. Burial followed in the New Home Cemetery in Poarch with the Rev. Martin Gehman, the Rev. Clarence Rolin and the Rev. Ray Ward officiating.
Visitation was held from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m. on Aug. 31, 2006 at Memorial Chapel Funeral Home in Atmore.
Cheryl Lynn Windham Mooney
REPTON – Cheryl Lynn Windham Mooney, 47, of Repton passed away Aug. 29, 2006 at D. W. McMillan Memorial Hospital in Brewton.
Mooney is a native of Monroe County and resided in Conecuh County. She was a homemaker and attended Woodlawn Methodist Church.
Survivors include, her husband, Chester Mooney of Brewton; mother and father, E.M. and Betty Jo Windham of Repton; daughter, Natalie Nicole Rowland of Orange Beach; brother, Michael M. Windham of Repton; three sisters, Pat Hames of Monroeville, Amy Brock Qualls of Frisco City and Deanna McCrory of Mexia; granddaughter, Charlee Anne Rowland and mother-in-law, Lillie Mae Mooney of Brewton.
Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. on Sept. 1, 2006 at Monroe Chapel Funeral Home with the Rev. Thomas Smith and the Rev. Bobby Boatwright officiating. Burial followed in Bethel Cemetery in Jackson.
Myrtle Lillian Robinson
BAY MINETTE – Mrs. Myrtle Lillian Robinson, 96, of Bay Minette died Wednesday, Aug. 30, 2006 in Bay Minette. She was a homemaker, born in Canoe on April 6, 1910 to the late Charlie and Lillian Ballard Lee.
Robinson's husband, Henry Marshall Robinson; three sons, James Harold Robinson, Henry Lafayette Robinson and Charles Jackie Robinson and three sisters, Charlie Lee, Leola Bethea and Flora Entrekin, all preceded her in death.
Survivors include, one son, Jerry Leo Robinson of Birmingham; nine grandchildren; eight great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.
Services were held at 11 a.m. on Sept. 2, 2006 from Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. John Paul Lambert officiating. Graveside services were held at 1:30 p.m. on Sept. 2, 2006 in Mobile Memorial Gardens.
Active pallbearers include, Chris Cowley, Robbie Robinson, C.J. Burnette, Andrew Wheeler, Jimmy Robinson and Jerry Robinson.
Family received friends on from 10 a.m. until service time on Sept. 2, 2006 at Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home.
The family would like to than the nurses and staff of Oakwood Nursing Care Center and Community Hospice.
