The Escambia Academy Cougars football team knew they would be up for a challenge when they traveled to Butler to face the Saints of Patrician Academy, and a challenge they received.
The Cougars were not able to down the Saints and they fell 41-22. EA head coach Heath Gibson said that Patrician would be a good football team and a tough adversary for the Cougars.
"They were runner-up for the state title last year and they have a very balanced team," Gibson said.
The Saints proved that they are primed to repeat as state champs as they dominated EA Friday night. The Cougars (1-1) will come home next Friday to face Southern and the Cougars will look to get back on the winning track that led them into the playoffs in 2005.
EA will look to the leadership of its five seniors to help them rebound from a tough road loss. With the leadership of Joe Drew, Cody Norton, Kevin Maher, Ben Hetzel and Blake Wilson the Cougars will attempt to keep their home record perfect this week.
Kickoff is at 7:30 p.m.
