The Northview Chiefs did not let the distractions of week seven knock them off course. At first, the John Paul II Catholic High School Panthers canceled the game.
The game was originally rescheduled for Oct. 20. Then John Paul head coach Matthew Olesnevich called NHS head coach Cody Keene Thursday and said his team would be able to make it. But the team, with only 12 active players available for the contest, never really made it. Northview took the game easily, 41-0, en route to a 7-0 record.
On top of all this excitement, Northview also celebrated Senior Night Friday. Before the game all the seniors associated with the football program were honored.
When the game did eventually start, Northview began the scoring early and scored often, and racked up 22 points in the first quarter.
With 15 seconds gone from the clock, junior tailback Nakita Myles scored a 26-yard touchdown and junior quarterback and place kicker Kyle Sebestyen added the PAT for 7-0 lead.
Two minutes later senior fullback Travion Lockett added six points with a 34-yard touchdown run and sophomore running back Dusean Phifer added the two-point conversion.
Myles scored his second touchdown on a 10-yard run to widen the margin to 22-0 after a Sebestyen PAT. He reached the end zone again with 1:47 to go in the first half on a five-yard touchdown run. Sebestyen nailed the PAT for a 29-0 halftime lead.
Myles ended the game with 126 yards rushing and three touchdowns on nine carries and Lockett racked up 80 yards and one touchdown on three carries.
Senior defensive back Deonta Davison returned an interception 85 yards with 5:42 left in the third quarter and junior quarterback Darius Austin ran the ball in from two yards out for the final score of the game with 9:39 left.
The Chiefs take on South Walton in Santa Rosa Beach, Fla. Oct. 13 in their district opener. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
