The Northview Chiefs football team won their eighth game of the season in grand fashion, destroying the South Walton Seahawks 46-0 Friday night in Santa Rosa Beach, Fla.
"We really made some big plays," NHS head coach Cody Keene said. "We let them move the ball on us early, but our defense made some great plays and scored a couple times early."
The Chiefs (8-0, 1-0) received an early spark from sophomore running back and safety Nakita Myles when he picked up a Seahawk fumble and returned it 52 yards for a touchdown. The PAT was missed and Northview took a 6-0 lead with 7:29 left in the first quarter.
Junior quarterback connected with senior fullback Travion Lockett for a 29-yard touchdown strike through the air with 13 second left in the opening quarter. Myles added the two-point conversion and NHS held a 14-0 lead at the end of the quarter.
"They were big and strong up front, but we found ways to move the ball on them," Keene said. "They kept the ball away from us in the first half by pounding the ball, but our defense never gave in."
That strong bend, but don't break attitude of the Chiefs was magnified when senior defensive back Deonta Davison intercepted a pass and sprinted 101 yards for a touchdown. The PAT failed and the lead was 20-0 in favor of NHS with 4:17 to go in the half.
Myles added his first offensive touchdown nearly three minutes later on a six-yard touchdown run. The two-point conversion failed.
On the Chiefs' first possession of the second half, junior quarterback Darius Austin zipped a pass to senior wide receiver Sean Little and Little took it 61 yards for the score and a 33-0 lead after a successful PAT.
Myles added another touchdown run to his stats with a five-yard scamper with 52 seconds to go in the third quarter. The PAT failed. Lockett capped the scoring with 9:17 left in the game as he took the ball at the line of scrimmage and rumbled 53 yards on the ground for the touchdown. Sebestyen added his second successful PAT for the final of 46-0.
"I was proud of our guys," Keene said. "It was a good win and it gets us in the playoffs. Now we have to beat Baker and prepare to host a playoff game. We are 8-0 and I am proud of how hard these kids have worked to get to this point."
Myles compiled 71 yards rushing on 12 carries and two touchdowns. Lockett rumbled five times for 77 yards and one touchdown. Sebestyen was 4-for-6 for 64 yards and one touchdown in the aerial attack. Austin was 3-for-4 for 95 yards and one touchdown through the air.
Little had two catches on the day, including the one for a touchdown and racked up 79 yards receiving.
The Chiefs have a bye week this week, but they travel to take on Baker High School Oct. 27 in their final game of the regular season.
