Early weather forecasts predict cool, sunny conditions for this Saturday's 15th annual Williams Station Day.
Atmore Area Chamber of Commerce executive director Emilie Mims said the
"I think we're going to have a beautiful day," she said Tuesday afternoon. "When you plan an October festival, today is the weather that you want to have, and it looks like that's exactly what we're going have."
According to local weather models, festivalgoers should wake to a crisp 49 degrees Saturday with temperatures topping out at 74 degrees by midday.
As for final preparations for the annual event, Mims said they have continued without a hitch and also continue to grow.
"It's going great," she said. "We've got some last minute artists that are calling. A lot of these artists wait until the last minute because of the weather. If it rains, they lose their money."
Williams Station Day, a regional festival, is packed with venues that will offer a look into Atmore's past as well as its future. It will be held from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. on historic Pensacola Avenue and feature arts and crafts, live music from a variety of musicians, a pumpkin patch, a pumpkin painting and carving contest, festival games and rides, great food and much, much more.
Musicians will take center stage at the main stage located in front of the Atmore YMCA and Community Center. Blues singer Willie King will headline the main stage. Other musicians include Atmore's own Lana Langford, Southern Pride, Fat Man Squeeze, Pat Mendoza, Roy Harper, Paula Larke and a Guatemalan marimba band.
Mendoza and Larke will also be the featured storytellers at the storytelling tent sponsored by Alabama Power and Alto Products. The staff of the Atmore Public Library will be coordinating this event as visitors sit back and enjoy many tales.
Williams Station Day will also include a model train show, train rides around town, a Show and Shine Car Show and much more.
