The Atmore Lions Club has been busy in the past few months with their charity golf tournament, hosting the Sight Van at Williams Station Day, selling brooms and mops at Williams Station Day and having their bimonthly meetings.
But all the Atmore Lions were able to breath and have a nice, relaxing dinner Thursday night in the fellowship hall of First Presbyterian Church. This was the site of the first ever Atmore Lions Club Christmas Dinner.
"I had a talk with Lion Nancy Karrick a while back and we wanted to have some kind of social night," Atmore Lions Club president Patty Helton-Davis said. "I told her it was important to have a Christmas get together and she suggested a dinner. Then I spoke with Linda Ziglar, our district governor, and she suggested incorporating the new member initiation into the dinner."
And the culmination of all Davis' hard thinking was a Christmas dinner/ new member initiation. She said Karrick had the idea and Lion Jan Rice helped with the planning of the event.
Davis said a Lions Club Christmas celebration has not happened in the 10 years she has been a part of the Atmore Lions Club. Following dinner, Ziglar spoke about what being a Lion means to her and she was the person who initiated the six new members to the Atmore Lions Club.
Those six new members are Michael Arnold, Nick Baggett, Matthew Nascone, Jeff Peacock, Jodi Peacock and Jan Rice.
"I just thought this is such a special time of year and we have such a special club that we needed to celebrate that somehow," Davis said.
