The Escambia Academy Cougars made it to the championship game of the Holiday Classic at Monroe Academy Dec. 16, but they were not able to escape with a win, dropping the game to Glenwood High School, 95-60.
EA jumped out to a quick lead with the three-point shooting of Andrew Lambeth and aggressive team defense, but they could not hold the lead and were trailing 21-17 at the end of the first quarter.
Lambeth hit a three-ball to open the second quarter to pull the Cougars within one point at 21-20. But the Cougars could not keep Glenwood's high-powered offense at bay and the score was 46-33 at the half. And the Gators continued to pour it on, winning 95-60.
The Cougars defeated Monroe Academy in the first round of the tournament to make it to the championship game. They walked away with a second place trophy for their efforts and Lambeth and Cody Norton made the all-tournament team.
EA travels to Auburn to partake in the Lee-Scott Tournament this weekend. Tip off is set for Dec. 28 at 4 p.m. for the Lady Cougars and 6:30 p.m. for the Cougars. Both squads will take on Cottage Hill.
