Baptist Health Care remains one of "100 Best Companies to Work For," according to FORTUNE magazine, which recently released its 2007 list of the nation's most employee-friendly organizations. Baptist Health Care affiliated facilities include Gulf Breeze, Jay and Atmore Community hospitals.
This is the sixth consecutive year that northwest Florida's only locally owned health care system has placed on the FORTUNE list. Employee satisfaction is a major tenet of Baptist's service excellence philosophy, which maintains that it takes happy employees to have happy patients.
A not-for-profit organization, Baptist Health Care has long invested in its employees, providing them with the support, tools and training that allow them to do their best.
"Once again, you are proving to the world that health care can be a positive work environment," Baptist's president Al Stubblefield said. "To me, Baptist Health Care is its workforce. As long as I have the privilege of serving as your CEO, it is my commitment to keep our focus on delivering great service to our customers and having a great place to work for every employee that chooses to join us."
Placing 54th on the FORTUNE roster, Baptist Health Care was listed with such world-class companies as Mayo Clinic, Procter &Gamble, Nike and American Express. Nearly 450 companies were considered for inclusion on the list. Selection was based on two criteria: an evaluation of the policies and culture of each company and the opinions of employees at each company. Two-thirds of the scoring is based on employee responses to a 57-question survey that goes to at least 400 randomly selected employees at each company.
With its 5,500 full- and part-time employees, Baptist Health Care – which includes four hospitals, a nursing home and the Lakeview Center network of mental health services – is the largest non-governmental employer in northwest Florida.
The list and related stories will appear in the Jan. 22 issue of FORTUNE, which was available at newsstands on Jan. 15. The list and accompanying articles can be viewed at www.fortune.com.
