Hurley Matthew (Bubba) Clemmons
ATMORE – Hurley Matthew (Bubba) Clemmons was born on August 26, 1940 to David Franklin and Mattie Lou (Shanks) Clemmons and went home to the Lord on Wednesday, Feb. 14, 2007 at his home. Bubba was a native of Foley but resided in the Atmore area most of his life. He served in the U.S. Army in Germany from 1959 to 1962. He joined the National Guard in 1972. Bubba retired from NAS in Pensacola, Fla. in 1993. and retired from the Alabama National Guard in 2000. Bubba was preceded in death by his parents, and two brothers, Donald and Jack Clemmons.
Survivors include: his wife of 41 years, Kay Clemmons; one son, Del Clemmons; and one daughter, Shelley Clemmons; five grandchildren, Logan Morris, Danielle Morris, Ashlynn, Andre, and Maddie Clemmons; one sister, Eunice Tyree of McCullough; and one brother, John Clemmons of Gonzales, Fla.
Visitation was held Saturday, Feb. 17 at Saint Robert Bellarmine Catholic Church from 9 a.m. until 10 a.m. followed by Mass of Christian Burial. Celebrant of the Mass was Rev. Gordon Milsted. Burial was at the Old Whistler Cemetery in Whistler. Pallbearers were SFC James Agerton, SPC Raymond Jameison, SGT Troy Fitzhugh, SSG Bubby Lambert, SGT Winston Dortch, and Jack E. Clemmons. Honor Guards were SGT Matt Sewell and SFC Randy Bailey. SGT Matt Sewell presented the flag to Bubba's wife, Kay. Justin Gates, a senior at Escambia County High School, played taps.
Barbara Jean Johnson
MONTGOMERY – Mrs. Barbara Jean Johnson, 74, passed away on Sunday, Feb. 25, 2007 in Shreveport, La.
Mrs. Johnson was a native of Wildee, Ky., and a resident of Montgomery for the past eight years. She was retired from Arrow Head Manor Assisted Living after a number of years, also from working with disabled persons after 30 years, and attended the Protestant Church. Preceded in death by a son, Lester Raymond "Butch" Johnson.
Survivors include: the father of her children, Floyd Johnson of Clanton; two daughters, Regina and Bob Lowry of Shreveport, La., and Tonya and Michael Folley of Titus; eight grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; her brother, Russell Ballinger of Shreveport, La.; a special niece, Betty Jane Peterson of Prescott, Ariz.; and a good friend, Vernon "Pete" Luckett of Montgomery.
Graveside services were held Thursday, March 1, 2007 at 10 a.m. at the Johnson Cemetery.
William Marvin Lowery
WALNUT HILL, FLA. – Mr. William Marvin Lowery, 74, passed away on Monday, Feb. 26, 2007 at a Pensacola hospital.
Mr. Lowery was a native of Century, Fla., and a resident of Walnut Hill, Fla. since 1999.
Survivors include: his sister, Ethelyn Lowery Good of Houston, Texas; a nephew, Bill Good of Plymouth, Mass.; a niece, Mary Good of Houston, Texas; and his extended family, Al Gregory and the residents of Enon Manor.
Graveside services were held Thursday, March 1, 2007 at 1 p.m. at the Hollywood Cemetery with Bro. Al Gregory officiating.
James Edward Brooks
BAY MINETTE – Mr. James Edward Brooks, 57, passed away on Monday, Feb. 12, 2007 at a Montgomery hospital.
Mr. Brooks was a native of Monroeville, a resident of Bay Minette for most of his life and attended the Holiness Church.
Survivors include: his son, Randal Luther Brooks of Daphne; two daughters, Elboney Jean Brooks of Tenn., and Kimberly Denise Brooks of Pensacola, Fla.; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; four brothers, Harrell Brooks of Bay Minette, William Brooks of Luverne, Riley Sherman Brooks of Fairhope, and George Brooks of Foley; and five sisters, Lillian Aline Hadley of Perdido, Laura Johnson of Waynesboro, Miss., Flora Hadley of Bay Minette, Mary Hadley of Silver Hill, and Tina Stringfellow of Pearl, Miss.
Funeral services were held Saturday, March 3, 2007 at 2 p.m. at the Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home with Rev. Robert Lord officiating.
Burial followed at Brooks Cemetery.
Visitation was held Friday, March 2, 2007 from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home.
Sister Josephine (Josie) Davis Robinson
Sister Josephine (Josie) Davis Robinson was born in Monroe County on Sept. 13, 1919. Her husband, Brother Oscar Robinson, her mother, father, and sister preceded her in death. Sister Robinson departed this life on Monday, Feb. 26, 2007, at Atmore Community Hospital. She accepted Christ at an early age and united with the Mt. Gilead Missionary Baptist Church where she remained a faithful member until her health began to fall. Sister Robinson was loved by all who knew her.
Sister Robinson leaves to cherish her memories three sister-in-laws: Sister Alice B. Salter, Sister Clemmie Lindsay Johnson, and Sister Ella Robinson, all of Atmore. Two special nieces: Sister Vivian Tait (Wiley) and Sister Regina Williams of Atmore. Special friends: Sister Annie B. Quarker, Sister Mary McMillian, Sister Veola Anderson, Sister Ceola Hubert and brother A.D. Milton of Atmore. A God-daughter, Sister Wanda J. Armstrong, and a special nurse and care-taker Sister Lucy Dubose. She also leaves to cherish her memories a host of other cousins, relatives, and friends. A heart-warming special thanks goes to Dr. Jonathon Yoser, The Atmore Community Hospital, and the I.C.I. staff.
Pallbearers will be friends of the family, flower bearers will be the missionaries and the interment will be in Luscious Cemetery.
Services will be at Christian Memorial Funeral Home, 78 Harris Street, Atmore on Saturday, March 3, 2007 at 11 a.m.
Emma Jenkins Moore
Mrs. Emma Jenkins Moore was born to the union of the late Mr. Matthew Jenkins and Emma Lou Jenkins.
She was born on March 27, 1953 in Escambia County. She was united in holy matrimony to the late Mr. Robert Lee Moore on Aug. 31, 1990.
Mrs. Emma Moore departed her life on this earth on Feb. 25, 2007, but her memories will be cherished by a son Stacey (Rolanda) Jenkins; her mother Emma Lou Jenkins; three sisters, Shirley Ann Jenkins, Dianne Jenkins, Barbara Ann (Hubert) Washington, all of Atmore; one brother, Bobby Ray Jenkins of Atmore; one special and devoted niece, Angela (Gabriel) Jackson; one special great niece Destiny Brown; three grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and friends.
Pallbearers will be her nephews, flower bearers will be her nieces, and the interment will be held in Fairview Cemetery.
Services will be held at Christian Memorial Funeral Chapel, 78 Harris Street, Atmore, on March 3, 2007 at 2 p.m.
