A Georgia family escaped serious injury Monday morning following a rollover accident on Interstate 65 north.
According to a spokesperson at the Mobile post of the Alabama State Troopers Office, Rondell Campbell, 38, of Riverdale, Ga. was driving a 2000 Ford Expedition when it flipped at least once at mile marker 47, one mile south of the Escambia County line. According to the trooper at the scene, a blowout is believed to be the cause of the wreck.
"He had a tire separate and lost control of his vehicle," Trooper Bogle said Tuesday morning. "He ran off the road and overcorrected."
According to Bogle, Campbell apparently ran off the road following the blowout and overcorrected his SUV, causing it to roll over at 11 a.m. Campbell's wife, Lawanda, 32, and their children, Marquairius, 14; Alexis, 7 and Perquez, 5, were all four passengers in the vehicle. All five received minor injuries and were transported by North Baldwin EMS to North Baldwin Infirmary in Bay Minette for evaluation. According to a hospital spokesperson Tuesday morning, the family was treated and released Monday afternoon.
Perdido Volunteer Fire Department personnel also responded to the scene of the accident assisting medics and directing traffic.
