The Atmore Area Chamber of Commerce’s deadline for nominating a Citizen of the Year and Lifetime Achievement recipient has been pushed back a week.
Chamber executive director Emilie Mims said because the banquet is later than usual, people have a little extra time to nominate someone for one of the awards.
The award winners will be announced at the Chamber’s 62nd annual banquet, which will be held Feb. 7 at the Atmore Area YMCA &Community Center at 6:30 p.m.
Nominations are due to the Chamber office by Jan. 25 at 4 p.m.
Last year the Citizen of the Year award went to two Atmore residents, Earl Bryant and his wife Marilyn.
The Chamber began the Citizen of the Year award presentation in 1978. The award recognizes the individual who has made contributions to Atmore for the year designated. Atmore’s first Citizen of the Year was Nathan H. Gross.
The Lifetime Achievement Award was given to Betty Warren at last year’s banquet.
The Lifetime Achievement Award is given to someone who has made contributions to the Atmore community over his or her lifetime. The award was established in 1996 when the late Dr. J.B. Thomas was the first recipient.
Applications for either award should be delivered or mailed to the Atmore Area Chamber of Commerce office located at 501 South Pensacola Ave. by 4 p.m. Jan. 25.
