Chancellor Bradley Byrne of the Alabama Department of Postsecondary Education was the guest speaker at the Atmore Rotary Club’s weekly meeting Tuesday.
Many Rotarians were joined by Atmore Lion’s Club members to hear Byrne speak about the Alabama College System’s integrity issues and future endeavors.
Byrne has been the chancellor of Alabama Department of Postsecondary Education since May of 2007. As the chancellor, Byrne is the chief executive officer of the state’s two-year college system.
He said when he began working with two-year institutions he realized there were two things he had to do quickly. He said integrity issues had to be addressed and had to “ramp up” key goals.
Byrne did not divulge what integrity issues he was speaking about, but has worked to correct them by putting everyone on staff through ethics training. Also there have been changes in policy, he said.
Byrne expects everyone involved in the two-year college system to abide by certain ethics.
The two-year college system has three missions according to Byrne: academic transfer function, adult education and workforce development.
To conclude Tuesday’s meeting, Byrne said he feels great about working with two-year college personnel.
