An Atmore woman was arrested last week and charged with capital murder and kidnapping in connection with the death of a Perdido man last November.
Angela Morrow, 26, AKA Angela Mooney, was arrested Wednesday, about 11:30 a.m., in a trailer park just north of Atmore, off Highway 21, according to Chief Deputy Larry Milstid with the Baldwin County Sheriff's Department.
Two Atmore men and a Baldwin County man and woman were ar-rested in December for the murder of Thomas F. Philyaw, 54, of Dan Hadley Road in Perdido. Philyaw was rob-bed of his Christmas bonus, beaten, shot and burned.
The four previously arrested were Timothy Keith Flowers, 18, North Main Street, Atmore; John Earl Morrow, 31, North Main Street, Atmore; Kendall Maurice Young Packer, 20, County Road 61, Perdido; Elizabeth Rose Fillingim, 24, Phillipsville Road, near Perdido.
At the time of those four arrests, Milstid said the investigation was continuing and a fifth suspect may have been involved.
"A fair amount of time had elapsed," Milstid said. "[Morrow] expressed some surprise that we were arresting her and at the gravity of the charge …
"She has two young children. We were accompanied to her residence by two members of the Department of Human Resources of Escambia County who took the children."
Milstid, BCSO sergeants John Stewart and Dean McGowin were also assisted by the Escambia County Sheriff's Department.
All five suspects are charged with capital murder / kidnapping, capital murder / robbery, capital murder / shooting, and three counts of conspiracy. All are being held in the Baldwin County jail. None are eligible for bond.
At the time of Philyaw's murder, Milstid called it a "savage and brutal slaying."
The suspects had learned that Philyaw, 54, had received his $1,000 Christmas bonus from Friese Hauling in Atmore on Nov. 24. According to Milstid, Fillingim went to the door of Philyaw's home and told him she had car trouble. When he went to help, Flowers, Morrow and Packer were hiding at her vehicle.
They jumped Philyaw, beat him, robbed him and put him in the bed of his own pick-up truck. They drove the truck into northern Baldwin County, near Lottie, went into a wooded area. They shot Philyaw while he was still in the truck, then they set the truck on fire, burning the body and the truck.
The investigation determined that Philyaw died as a result of the shooting.
Flowers, Morrow and Filligim were arrested in Atmore Nov. 30, Milstid said. Packer was arrested in Baldwin County.
No further arrests in the Philyaw murder are anticipated.
"We believe we have all the suspects involved in this situation in custody now," Milstid said.
