Bonner will curb wasteful spending
Rep. Jo Bonner, R-Mobile, was recently named to the House Appropriations Committee.
Rep. Bonner’s appointment to the House Appropriations Committee on Thursday marked a red-letter day for the state of Alabama.
Bonner becomes the third member to sit on the House committee, more than many states and equal to larger ones, such as New York, California, Texas and Florida.
With Bonner are Reps. Bud Cramer, D-Huntsville and Robert Aderholt, R-Haleyville. Over on the Senate side, Sen. Richard Shelby is a senior member of the Appropriations Committee.
This kind of power on the spending committees will do Alabama well because it should ensure the state gets a fair share of discretionary federal money.
Bonner says in his column below that his No. 1 priority as a member of the committee will be “to serve as a vigilant guardian of your tax dollars, helping to expose and eliminate wasteful or questionable spending.” This type of leadership will hopefully end or at least curb wasteful spending. Keeping spending on the forefront will hopefully allow for the appropriate funding so Bonner will have opportunity to fight for more money for his home state.
With all Bonner’s experience and knowledge, hopefully his presence on the committee will help restore credibility.
