Lady Chiefs chomped

The Baker Lady Gators invaded Bratt Thursday night and took a bite out of the host Lady Chiefs of Northview, 12-5.
The Lady Gators opened the scoring in the first inning with two runs. They added five more runs in the third inning and the Lady Chiefs (0-2) got on the board with three runs of their own in the bottom of the third inning to cut the Baker lead to 7-3.
Baker (2-0) added one run in the fifth inning and four in the seventh. The Lady Chiefs cut the Baker lead to 8-5 in the sixth inning with two runs of their own.
Freshman pitcher Miranda Burkett (0-2) picked up her second loss in as many games for NHS, allowing all 12 runs, three of which were earned. She allowed six hits, but walked 18 batters. She added three strikeouts.
Freshman second baseman Shawna Montgomery went 2-for-4 at the plate with one double and one RBI. Freshman catcher Emily Vickrey was 1-for-4 with one double and two RBIs and one run scored.
Sophomore shortstop Amber McMillan was 1-for-3 with one run scored and one RBI. Senior left fielder Olivia Godwin was 1-for-2 with one run scored and one stolen base. Sophomore third baseman Candice Greenwell went 1-for-2.
The Lady Chiefs hosted West Florida Tech Friday in makeup game from Tuesday's rainout. The results will be in an upcoming Advance. Next up for NHS is the first round of the Border War with the Escambia County Lady Blue Devils Tuesday in Bratt. First pitch is set for 4 p.m. for the JV game and 6 p.m. for the varsity game. The team will travel to Dothan for the Dothan Tournament Feb. 22-23.
