Atmore’s Relay For Life is just around the corner and Southern Pine has stepped in as a title sponsor of the event with a hefty donation.
Southern Pine officials Jeff Kirkland and Vince Johnson met with co-chairs Deborah Camp and Becky Ganey and Allison Faircloth with the American Cancer Society Friday morning to present a $3,000 check to help the fight against cancer.
Relay’s team captains held a meeting last Thursday to discuss some last-minute details.
A survivor’s brunch will be held at First Baptist Church Atmore before the big event on April 26. Survivors are encouraged to attend the brunch, even if they have not received invitations. According to Atmore Nursing Center administrator Cindy Lee, the brunch will be held at 10:30 a.m. At 11:30 a.m. the brunch will end and the survivors will travel to Escambia County High School for Relay For Life, which will begin at noon.
There are a few things Relay team members should be sure to remember for the actual event:
According to Ganey, there will be children’s activities going on all day at Relay to keep kids busy. There will also be an array of entertainment and many ways to help donate money for Relay For Life.
A fundraiser that will raise money for Relay, but will be held after the event is Frontier’s golf tournament. The golf tournament is slated for May 16 at Atmore Country Club. Sue and Jody Dortch provided an invitation for area businesses to be a part of the tournament to help raise money for a good cause.
Tournament rates are $75 per person ($300 for a 4-person team) and hole sponsorship is $50. Donations for door prizes are also requested.
Those interested in donating to the cause should make their checks payable to American Cancer Society and mail them to Sue Dortch, 201 S. Pensacola Ave., Atmore, AL. 36502.
