Goodwyn, Mills &Cawood engineer Brian Deaton received an unexpected honor during Monday afternoon’s Atmore city council meeting.
Mayor Howard Shell presented Deaton with a key to the city for his efforts the last 10 months working with the city of Atmore on numerous engineering projects.
Deaton, 34, who recently concluded his service with the U.S. Army after 12 years has been recalled to active duty and will be leaving Goodwyn, Mills &Cawood. He said that he will serve as the lead trainer for Southeast Alabama. He will not be going to Iraq, which he returned from in 2006.
The key was mounted on a plaque, which Shell presented Deaton with at the conclusion of the council meeting.
According to Shell, Deaton has been “very active and busy” working on Rivercane and the box culvert recently repaired behind city hall.
Among some of the projects Goodwyn, Mills &Cawood has assisted the city in is improvements to the city’s industrial parks. During the meeting, Shell announced that the city had received $245,000 grant for road improvements in the city’s industrial parks. The funds can be used at either the downtown or Rivercane industrial parks.
