Showing excitement for Mayfest
By Adrienne McKenzie
Atmore area residents may have noticed that I was “missing in action” last week as I went on vacation to Myrtle Beach, S.C. But, I have returned and am ready to get back in action.
I had an amazing time at the beach and if I had the choice to stay there, I would. But since I need to work and since Atmore’s such a nice place, I decided to come back.
Since I have been back in town, the buzz has been all about Mayfest.
There are so many things going on at Mayfest that I am really excited about. The first thing is as simple as wearing the T-shirt. I think Lisa Reynolds did an amazing job designing this year’s Mayfest shirts and if you haven’t gotten yours, you need to immediately!
Other than wearing the T-shirt, I am pumped about the entertainment. This year’s headliner is Dew Pendleton of Jay, Fla.
Dew is the 2008 The Sound Star Search winner for the Creek Entertainment Center. I had the opportunity to go to the competition when it occurred during January through March and I have to say that Dew is a great performer. I think the Atmore Area Chamber of Commerce made an excellent decision when they chose him as the headliner.
I also think Shane Harrell and Ashley Dawn will give quite a show as musical entertainers for the event.
I can’t say much for the rest of the entertainers because I have never heard them, but I am sure those in attendance won’t be lacking in the music department because there are many talented individuals in the area.
There are also going to be many vendors at Mayfest. I am pumped about all the vendors who will be selling purses because they are my downfall. I have about 25 of them and would buy 25 more if I could afford to.
I think the way the Chamber is conducting the children’s activities is a great idea this year also. Instead of having to pay for each individual ride or event, children are given a wristband at the beginning of the day for one price and they are allowed to participate in anything they wish.
I am overall just happy to be a part of Mayfest this year since I have never been to one. I lived here in Atmore during last year’s Mayfest, but I was in Birmingham being a part of one of my best friend’s weddings. She would’ve probably been extremely upset with me had I told her I could not be one of her bridesmaids because I had to attend Mayfest.
But, this year there is no wedding and I am looking forward to attending Atmore’s annual event.
I hope everyone in the community comes out and supports Mayfest because I know the Chamber has worked extremely hard to provide a spectacular day for area residents!
